The One Word: Create Your Best Year At Any Time Of The Year!

All About Themes

If you know me well, I’m all about themes. To me, themes set the stage as to what to expect. We see themes in horror movies, science fiction, comedy etc. Themes are prevalent in business and investments like AI, the metaverse, socially responsible investing and so on. They help predict what can be expected in the near future.  For the last few years I have tried my best to mental have themes for the year. The reason for this is that it allowed me to stay focused on goals while manifesting expectations. For some, this can be done by writing out a mission statement or remembering a phrase. For me, I do something much simpler. I focus on One Word. Throughout the year, I would repeat this one word. When adversity and challenges hit me, I repeat the one word. As I’m meditating I repeat The One Word.

The start to 2022 has been a challenging one. Heck the last few years have been a struggle. Now I’m not one to get sucked into the ritual of mentally waiting till the new year starts to reset. As my recent book “F*ck it! Let’s Pivot” so blatantly highlighted in its title, sometimes we just need to pivot and adjust. So regardless of what time it is in the year, you don’t need to wait to course correct and change the theme of your year moving forward. Once again, it starts with defining that one word.

For the last year that word for me was Unbreakable. I told myself that no matter what life wouldn’t break me. I may bend but I would never break. When I failed in business ventures, I reminded myself that it wouldn’t break me. When I was betrayed by friends, I reminded myself that they would not break me. And when I felt down and depressed, I reminded myself that this feeling would not break me.

I got through some tough times with that one word. However, I feel that this year will be different. As much as I loved to tell myself that I was unbreakable, I felt that it was a reactionary word. I was not completely controlling the narrative as the word to me indicates that I am responding to some outside force or stimulus. I am reacting to what something or someone has done to me.  This year, my word has changed, I plan on taking a more proactive approach. This year’s word is RISE. Similar to the theme of my podcast, Ready Set RISE where RISE stands for Real Individuals Sharing Excellence, on an individual level RISE is more about a proactive mindset. It is taking full control of a situation and acting upon set plans. It’s about execution and ultimately manifestation. To me this year RISE stands for Right Intentions Successfully Executed. It’s about knowing your goals and going after them. So this year, whether you have a slogan, a phrase or like me, ONE Word, set your theme now as it lays the mental foundation for the year ahead.
